Macross' Shoji Kawamori Transforms Miku Race Car Into a Robot
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
Mecha designer and anime director Shōji Kawamori (Macross, Aquarion, AKB0048) gave Good Smile Racing's Hatsune Miku race car a mecha makeover. The "Hatsune Miku GT Project" is the fifth generation of Good Smile Racing's Hatsune Miku cars.
Racing Miku is drawn by her long-time designer Oguchi (Kantai Collection) while her costume was designed by Shigeto Koyama (Gundam: Reconguista in G, Captain Earth, Kill la Kill).
The project isn't just a moe showpiece. The car series has won multiple races since its inception, including the Hatsune Miku BMW in 2012 2011. It has, in turn, received its own line of tie-in merchandise.
This isn't the first time Kawamori has tackled transforming cars. He teamed up with automobile manufacturer Subaru and Fuji Heavy Industries last year in order to re-imagine its “EyeSight” Driving Support System as a fictional robot.
