Takeshi Yagi — the director of many Ultraman tokusatsu series from 1996 to 2007 — and producer William Winckler — the founder of William Winckler Productions — announced a partnership on Thursday to develop new "Japanese style" science fiction and fantasy films and television series. The new productions will be joint productions between Japanese and U.S. companies.
The new productions will combine traditional special effects with CG, and will focus on classic Japanese monster, horror, and fantasy genres.
Yagi has directed many installments in the Ultraman franchise, including Ultra Q: Dark Fantasy, Ultraman Gaia, Ultraman Cosmos, Ultraman Max, Ultraman Nexus, Ultraman Mebius, Ultraseven X, and Superior Ultraman 8 Brothers.
Winckler's William Winckler Productions has produced English dubs for Ultraman Ginga S The Movie, Ultraman X: The Movie, Ultra Fight Victory, Mega Monster Battle Ultra Galaxy The Movie, Ultraman Zero The Revenge of Belial, and Ultraman Saga. The company has also produced English-dubbed pilots for some anime series.
